GR Celica : Toyota is on fire right now. They’re actually pursuing desirable cars these days and while they’re back to making sports, even their everyday cars have gotten pretty damn good along the way and made the brand a lot more entertaining. On the bright side, Toyota is also bringing a couple of nameplates back. Toyota has filed a trademark for the GR Celica nameplate in Brazil and we’re absolutely here for it.
The Celica nameplate will be revived, according to previous confirmation from Toyota, where it would sit next to the GR86 in the lineup. It was filed in Brazil by Toyota Motor Corporation with Brazil’s National Institute of Industrial Property and Ministry of Economy. Toyota should come out with a performance coupe based on this, which would be fitted to the 2.0L, 400 bhp turbocharged unit which Toyota is developing. Not confirmed, but it would add up for the Celica to share the all-wheel-drive system of the GR Yaris, he said since the Celica, too, has been a rally legend.
In addition to the Celica, Toyota also confirmed that they were in development for the Toyota MR2 successor which we will see a proper mid-engine sports car for the masses, along with possible next generation Mk6 Toyota Supra. The world is a wonderful place for car nuts right now, especially those whose passions lie with Toyota. You can enjoy a manual Toyota geared Supra, the GR86 was already an excellent beginner sports car, and then there’s the GR Corolla and Yaris hatchbacks, already certified legends.
This is not just with regards to Toyota’s hoonage because coming to the all-new Prius, what a stunner – and the SUVs and pick-up-trucks are no slouches either. So far there aren’t any details for the Celica, but expect some news towards the end of this year. The GR Yaris M Concept will also make its debut in the Super Taikyu Series 2025, which Toyota plans to take part in.
