Ola Electric S1 Gen 3 Unveiled : Ola Electric has introduced a major upgrade to its scooter portfolio by way of its all-new Gen 3 platform, coming in the face of increasing competition. In the transition to the third-generation architecture, the entire portfolio of the Ola S1 now uses more powerful mid-drive motors, as the inexpensive models have axed hub motors. Other changes include the introduction of an anti-
lock braking system (ABS) on the S1 portfolio and a brake-by-wire tech, and also removing the S1 Air from the lineup. S1 Gen 3 introductory pricing begins at Rs 79,999, the company said, and will be only for a “period of seven days” and deliveries will commence from mid-February 2025, said the company chief, Bhavish Aggarwal.
The biggest update in the range is for the Ola S1 X variants, which now gets mid-drive motor with a chain final drive instead of a hub motor. All S1 X models feature a segmented colour LCD dash, as well as brake-by-wire tech which uses a brake sensor to allow single-channel ABS.
Showcased with three battery options, the 2 kWh (Rs 79,999), 3 kWh (Rs 89,999) and 4 kWh (Rs 99,999). The S1 X+, in contrast, can only be had with the 4 kWh battery (Rs 1,07,999). The 4 kWh version of the S1 X produces a peak power output of 7 kW (9.3 bhp), allowing a claimed 0-40 kmph acceleration time of 3 seconds (quicker than the S1) and a big increase in the claimed top speed of 123 kmph (up from 90 kmph). Ola says the IDC range figures for the S1 X 4 kWh and S1 X+ stand at 242 kilometres.
Importantly, the S1 X+ sports a front disc brake in addition to an integrated rear disc. it also uses the same mid-drive motor nicked on the Gen 2 S1 Pro, putting out a peak 11 kW (14.75 bhp) of power, with a claimed 0-40 kmph time of just 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 125 kmph — a significantly higher top speed than its predecessors.
Ola S1 Pro Gen 3: What’s New?
The S1 Pro Gen 3 comes with a range of battery options, unlike the Gen 2 model. The base version gets a 3 kWh battery (₹ 1.15 lakh) and the mid-model gets the 4 kWh battery (₹ 1.35 lakh). Performance figures stay relatively similar for the S1 Pro 4 kWh (with a slight increase in top speed to 125 kmph) but range has also gone up to 242 km (IDC), following the incorporation of brake-by-wire. It also receives a reworked seat, new graphics on the rims, a chain final drive and a new design for the aluminium pillion grab handle.
The Ola S1 Pro+, with the higher-spec battery pack, is already set to be the first electric scooter to use made-in-India battery cells. Equipped with the company’s own 4680-format ‘Bharat Cell’, the top-spec S1 Pro+ features a 5.3 kWh battery pack and an IDC range of up to 320 kilometres, at a price of ₹ 1.70 lakh. There’s a 4 kWh batty option too for the S1 Pro+, at Rs 1.55 lakh.
It is also the most powerful scooter in the range, generating a peak 13 kW (17.4 bhp) of power and the quickest-claiming 0-40 kmph time of just 2.1 seconds, and the top speed too of 141 kmph. The S1 Pro+ also gets dual-channel ABS (with dedicated front-wheel ABS), and will come in six colour options.
Meanwhile, all S1 models come with a vehicle and battery warranty of 3 years and 40,000 kilometres and customers will also be able to extend the battery warranty to 8 years or 1.25 lakh kilometres by paying an additional Rs 14,999.Ola has issued a price cut for its Gen 2 scooter variants as well. The S1 X 2 kWh will be priced at Rs 69,999 while the S1 X 3 kWh will set you back by Rs 79,999, S1 X 4 kWh at Rs 89,999 and the S1 Pro at Rs 1.15 lakh for the next seven days.
