Alpine A110 R 70 & A110 GTS : The Final Chapter of a Legend

Alpine A110 R 70 & A110 GTS : :Alpine has chosen to both celebrate it’s 70th birthday and commentate the final year of its current, petrol-powered A110 in one short sentence by introducing two new variants of its cream of the crop mid-engined sports cars. The new range-topping model is limited-edition Alpine A110 R 70 and price starts from £103,345. And the recently launched A110 GTS, priced from £67,311, aims

to take over from the current GT and more aggressive S versions. There’s been no loss of the entry-level A110 in the shake-up, but it does start from £55,160 now. This new line-up will be on sale in May. Customers will be afforded precisely a 12-month window in which to place an order before the current A110 exits showrooms to pave the way for an all-electric successor that’s due in 2024.

New Alpine A110 R 70

There will be only 770 models of the A110 R 70, with hints at the brand’s birthday like ‘A70’ logos on the front wings and also on the fuel cap, between the front and rear door sills, and on the headrest, and a uniquely numbered plaque inside representing the carOf the already small production run of the R 70, 70 special examples will wear Caddy Blue, 70 Glacier White and 70 Sismique Red — the colours of the French tricolour.

On top of this, these models will also feature colour matched upholstery for their Sabelt bucket seats and carbon-fibre 18-inch wheel rims, along with a 70th-anniversary logo affixed to the roof, visible in carbon fibre. The A110 R’s bespoke wheels (mounted with track-oriented Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 rubber), Akrapovic exhaust and 296bhp turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine good for 340Nm of torque, carry over unchanged to the R 70, which uses the same chassis setup as its predecessor. The bonnet, roof and rear swan-neck spoiler are also carbon fibre, as is the plate that replaces the rear windscreen.

New A110 GTS

The Alpine’s A110 GTS uses the chassis set-up from the A110 S that it replaces, although the brand states it “doesn’t compromise the everyday comfort of the A110 GT”’. With the GTS, five new body colours have been added: Peacock Blue and Acropolis Orange from its heritage catalogue, plus Solar Orange, Eclipse Blue and Steel Grey matt finishes.

A GTS will also be offered with an optional aero kit inspired by the R, equipped with a front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser and rear carbon-fibre spoiler to enhance downforce. Buyers will also be able to opt for 18-inch GT Race wheels: The same items shod with Michelin PilotSport Cup 2 tyres.

That means the GTS will be fed by the same 296bhp turbocharged four-pot as its R 70 stablemate, while a less-powerful 248bhp unit will remain available in the entry-level A110.
