Go the Extra Mile : It’s safe to say that the Indian EV scene is no longer in its infancy. Consumer interest in EVs continues to grow with strong gains in charging infrastructure, lower and broader pricing, zero emissions and growing choice across the range of price points. But range anxiety still blocks the way of many EV buyers.
But, while the fears are certainly real, many carmakers these days offer EVs with plenty of range on a full charge, enough even for some highway treks, too. We’ve put together a list of the 10 electric cars and SUVs that offer the longest range on a single charge (as of February 2025) — when the car is brand new, according to the manufacturer. List has been ranked on cars tested on the stringent WLTP cycle — not the more relaxed ARAI testing cycle. So yeah, the list focuses on the upscale end of the EV spectrum in India.
The Mahindra XEV 9e was the first one that made it to the Indian market in November 2024. Right now, two variants of the XEV 9e are available: Pack One and Pack Three. The entry-level Pack One trim gets a 59kWh battery pack, which can run up to an ARAI-certified 542km on a single charge. The larger 79kWh battery in the Pack Three two-row configuration offers a WLTP-
certified range of up to 533km. With so many global brands unrolling the list, it is good to also see some Indian representation. Replacing the XEV 9e was the Mahindra BE 6, which was revealed together with the latter to announce the carmaker’s electric-only BE sub-brand — and become one of the most visually arresting SUVs, period. Like the XEV 9e, the BE 6 gets a 59kWh battery pack as standard but delivers a more impressive ARAI-certified range of 556km. Pack Three specialists will also be available to purchase an 79kWh BE 6, which has a WLTP-tested range of 550km, 17km more than the XEV 9e, also. Surprisingly, the BE 6 is also the cheapest EV on this list.
Kia launched the EV9 in India last year to establish the electric SUV as the automaker’s flagship model. As a CBU, the EV9 only comes in one state of tune, with a massive 99.8kWh battery pack and dual motors with a WLTP-certified range of 561km. Even considering the EV9 is the biggest EV here and can even do the 0-100kph sprint in 5.3s, the claimed range is quite impressive.
