Meet the Volvo EX30 Cross Country : The off-road-oriented EX30 that we have here is called the EX30 Cross Country and it has just made its debut on Volvo’s board. It’s also the first EV and first SUV to wear the Cross Country moniker, previously reserved for the Swedish brand’s hatchbacks, sedans and estates.
Features 19mm of suspension lift and off-road-oriented styling tweaks
“AWD” Comes with a 69kWh battery with dual motors producing 422hp
In fact, suspension is softer than on normal EX30 to better cope with rough terrain
Volvo EX30 Cross Country design
Unsurprisingly, the EX30 Cross Country appears brawnier than the garden-variety crossover with a blackened front fascia, a 19mm bump in ground clearance, a roof rack and a set of black cladding on the fenders. Chunky skidplates also adorn the front and rear bumpers. Standard-fit 720mm all-terrain rubber includes 18-inch alloy wheels in the EX30 Cross Country.
Buyers can also choose 19-inch alloy wheels, but these can be fitted only with road tyres. Also available are mudflaps, a roof-mounted kayak holder, a roof-mounted tent and a stowable towbar. EX30 Cross Country interior is identical to the standard SUV, with equipment that includes a 12.3-inch Google-powered touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a soundbar that spans the width of the dashboard, and more.
Powertrain, suspension: Volvo EX30 Cross Country
Volvo will offer the EX30 Cross Country only with dual motors and all-wheel drive, although a single-motor version may become available further down the road. Powering the EX30 Cross Country is the same 422hp and 543Nm output from the dual motors, while the EX30 Cross Country gets the same top-spec 69kWh battery as the standard SUV. This setup provides (WLTP) up to 427km of range, according to Volvo.
The EX30 Cross Country gets a softer five-link rear suspension than the regular SUV to better cope with rougher terrain, muddy tracks and “ankle-deep” snow, as well as highways, due to its greater focus on off-roading, according to Volvo. The Swedish automaker has been clear, though, that the EX30 Cross Country is not a hardcore off-road vehicle, but rather aimed at “weekend explorers,” to help them “access nature on nature’s terms, not conquer it.”
Details on Volvo EX30 Cross Country India launch
The prices for the EX30 Cross Country have not been disclosed and an India launch is not confirmed at the time of writing. The standard EX30 will join the bigger EX90 in India this year, so we will have to wait and see whether the EX30 Cross Country might also reach here.
