Yamaha s Upcoming Electric Scooter : Yamaha EV Launch In The Next Few Years: Another possibility that IT suspects is that Yamaha EV is still a few years away from launch. One of the reasons is that it could use a heavily-modified version of the River Indie platform whose last resulting product will likely be a sporty scooter. The report suggests that Yamaha may be working on a sport electric scooter. However, the platform
used for the electric scooter is not very clear if it is designed particularly for the Indian market. The same acquisition in India will be two years after investing in the Bengaluru-based EV company ‘Ride River’ in February 2024 The Japanese manufacturer has already claimed that it is exploring the possibilities of using the platform of the new River Indie electric scooter for its new electric
scooter for the Indian market. Additionally, the Japanese manufacturer has already declared that it plans to take up more of a sporty and performance-focused electric scooter instead of a mass-market family-focused electric scooter since it will suit the brand’s interfering sporty image. The manufacturer also admitted that making a high-speed electric scooter means it will not be
cheap to develop and will likely be on the more expensive side of the market. Therefore, in our opinion, the River Indie is not a very sporty electric scooter as it is highly practical and utilitarian and has a boxy design. This scooter is fitted with a 4kWh lithium-ion battery pack linked to a mid-mounted motor. The scooter produces 6.7kW and 26Nm, which is not a sizable output and is
similar to the other scooters available in the market. Therefore, if Yamaha plans to use the River Indie platform as it is for its upcoming performance-focused scooter, the Japanese manufacturer will have to modify the platform heavily to turn it into a sporty scooter. Therefore, Yamaha will have to figure out its logistics and supply chain as well because no Yamaha plant is
available in Karnataka, the hub of EVs in India with a solid electric two-wheeler supply chain. This is another fulfilling advantage for the manufacturer because by the time the Yamaha sporty scooter to India comes, the subsidies in India will be gone, and the government has planned to end them in 2026. Hence, Yamaha will know how the Indian market reacts to e-scooters from its
competitors like Honda and Suzuki and where they are failing. Using the changes in subsidies and the market and the time taken to launch, the manufacturer will decide the right price for its upcoming sporty electric scooter and also change the specifications as per the needs
