While the KTM 390 Duke has a single-cylinder engine, it still comes
very close to the rest here in terms of power and torque. Even so, the Tuono 457 is the segment’s leader with the most power and torque figures. Despite this the KTM produces the same output but at a greater compression ratio courtesy of its single-cylinder engine. It’s standard for all three motorcycles to take a 6-speed. But the Yamaha MT-03 lacks a slip and assist clutch, or a bi-directional quickshifter which the competition provides.

This amount is also 0.3-litres shorter than the RS 457. That’s a heavier bike than the other two here, too. In fact, the Yamaha MT-03 being a inline-2 is also a kilo lighter than the aforementioned single-cylinder KTM 390 Duke. The one to get adjustable seat height is also the KTM 390 Duke.

Suspension-wise, the fully adjustable suspension on the KTM 390 Duke is a lone feature in this comparison. KTM and Aprilia both come shod with a 150-section rear tyre while the Yamaha gets a 140-section which further shouldn’t be a cause of concern as it has the lowest kerb weight, and also comparatively the lowest torque and power figures.
Price: Aprilia Tuono 457 vs rivals Price Aprilia Tuono 457 MT-03 KTM 390 Duke Price Rs 3.95 lakh Rs 3.5 lakh Rs 2.95 lakh The most expensive of the bunch, however, is the Aprilia Tuono 457, priced at Rs 3.95 lakh. It does have the same cycle parts as the RS 457 and is Rs 25,000 cheaper than its faired sibling while also offering a better parallel twin mill and not down on power compared to its rivals like the Yamaha MT-03. It is marginally more powerful than the KTM 390 Duke but serves this power through a lesser compression ratio compared to the 390 Duke which needs a better compression in order to match the power.
Interestingly, beneath the online hype, Yamaha had recently slashed prices of the MT-03 by Rs 1.10 lakh, making it competitive against its competition. The 390 Duke, however, also got a price drop of Rs 18,000 recently, making the difference even wider. Whether the latest entrant, Japanese reliability from Yamaha, or a proven player in the field from KTM will appeal more to prospective buyers, remains to be seen.
