Indian FTR 1200 Bows Out Here’s Why It Failed to Impress Globally

Indian FTR 1200 Bows Out : Revised FTR 1200 dropped from Indian Motorcycles’ global lineup A footnote in Indian’s parent company Polaris’ FY24 Q4 financial statement confirmed the news. The motorcycle’s cancellation stems from a company-wide corporate restructuring effort that is being made necessary by persistently lackluster sales figures. In addition, the bike had been due for an update for some time, as it didn’t meet Euro 5+ emission standards; it’s possible that Honda deemed an update not feasible based on poor

demand. Though production of the motorcycle may have ended, the models are still present on Indian’s US website, suggesting dealers may still have unsold units sitting on the showroom floor.Introduced in 2018, the Indian FTR 1200 was designed in the spirit of the FTR 750: a race-only bike that won the company a championship on the flat-track. The motorcycle came about after enthusiasts suggested the motorcycle to Indian, a road-legal flat-track motorcycle. In typical flat track motorcycle fashion, it featured an upswept dual exhaust, abbreviated bodywork, single-piece seat, and crisp, minimalist tail section.

In terms of mechanics, the bike featured an up front upside-down fork setup, and a rear monoshock, both fully adjustable. Since its launch, the Indian FTR 1200 has been powered by a liquid-cooled 1203 cc V-Twin motor. The bike was powered by a variation of the same engine found in the Scout, heavily revised with a host of new parts. In its previous avatar, the motor produced 120 bhp and 118 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options included a six-speed unit.

The motorcycle was launched in India in 2019, priced at Rs 15.99 lakh (ex-showroom). We got our hands on one at carandbike, to rave about its styling, fit and finish, engine that delights. However, the motorcycle didn’t quite strike a chord in the country and few units were sold to Indian customers.
