Kia EV2 Concept : Kia has unveiled a new concept called the EV2 that’s a precursor to a new global entry-level model for the Korean automaker that’s due to go on sale in 2026. The EV2 will be Kia’s smallest electric vehicle to date.Kia reveals EV2 concept to preview entry-level EV modelIt also gets radical design touches like claw-like headlights, and square-spoke alloy wheels LED animations move across the dash and windows
Kia EV2 concept design
The EV2 concept is designed with a still further evolved version of Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ design language, with the small SUV’s front end showcasing rakish claw-like dual headlight units and heavy use of plastic cladding on the bumper. The EV2 concept offsets (pun intended) those slick lines with alloy wheels sporting funky square spokes, no door handles, and a pillarless design. At the back, the EV2 concept is fitted with relatively low-set tail-lamps that seem to echo those of the Syros, along with a roof spoiler.
Kia EV2 concept cockpit and features
Inside, the EV2 concept features front bench seating and foldable bench-style seating in the second row, which slides backward to create even more legroom. In this arrangement, Kia says that passengers have room to sit on the flat floor of the EV2 concept.
LED animations on the EV2 concept dashboard
The dashboard is trimmed in burgundy and doesn’t feature much beyond the combined instrument- and infotainment-screen layout. Curiously, the dashboard and windows include special LED animations, and the triangular speakers used in the doors can be detached and used as portable speakers. Additional highlights include a panoramic sunroof, corrosion skin support for over-the-air updates, and V2L (vehicle-to-load) ability letting the EV2 concept power external devices.
The concept has estimated battery capacity and range
Not too much further in the way of technical details has yet been revealed, but we can presume that the EV2 will use the entry-level 400V variant of Hyundai’s E-GMP architecture, which also serves as the foundation for the chain’s larger EV3 and EV4 models. So EV2 should use 58.3kWh or 81.4kWh battery packs, and a 201hp single front-mounted electric motor. The smaller battery pack offers a maximum range of 434km for the EV3, while the larger one can achieve up to 603km on a full charge. The EV2 could also use the 43.3kWh LFP battery pack from the PV5 electric van.
Kia EV2 India launch details
The EV2 will fill in the shoes of the Picanto hatchback offered in markets outside the US, debuting globally next year. India launch for the EV2 has not yet been confirmed, but it could come to these shores as Kia has trademarked as many as eight EV monikers here in 2023.
