March 2025 Car Launches : Jan and Feb have been the two most exciting months so far for the Indian automobile industry – from Auto Expo 2025 in Jan to new launches in Feb. There will be a few more cars and SUVs hitting the market when the first quarter of 2025 comes to an end in March.
Volvo XC90 facelift
Launch date: March 4, 2025 The Volvo XC90 SUV’s current-generation model has been on sale in India since 2016 and is due for a facelift. Last year, the Swedish carmaker took the covers off the XC90 facelift featuring redesigned styling elements borrowed from the EX90 electric SUV. These comprise a reworked grille with diagonal slats, thinner headlamps, updated bumpers, darker tail-lamps and new alloy wheels.
Inside, the XC90 facelift features a large 11.2-inch Google-based touchscreen infotainment system, which allows for over-the-air updates. Powertrain will likely be similar as the current XC90, with a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol mild-hybrid engine valeting 250hp and 360Nm of torque with an 8-speed automatic gearbox to all four wheels.
Pricing has not been announced, but expect the facelifted Volvo XC90 to cost a little more than the outgoing model and battle with the likes of the BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE and Audi Q7.
Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series
Launch date: March 17, 2025 The Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series, which was first showcased globally last year, is scheduled to make its Indian debut next month. The extravagant roadster is clearly derived from the Mercedes-Benz SL, and is billed as the sportiest Maybach ever produced. The SL 680 wears the definitive Maybach dual-tone paint scheme, new grille with vertical slats, and multi-spoke wheels.
Interior includes white Nappa leather upholstered seats, white dashboard and steering wheel with satin silver accent pieces, and a quieter exhaust system that the standard SL Roadster. As luxurious as the Maybach SL 680 is, it still uses a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8. It churns out 585hp and 800Nm, sent to all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic and launches from 0-100kph in 4.1 seconds.
Prices for India of the Maybach SL 680 have not yet been announced. Though the SL 55 Roadster is priced at Rs 2.35 crore (ex-showroom), the SL 680 Maybach will have a higher price.
Maruti Suzuki e Vitara Launch date: March 2025 In March, Maruti Suzuki will finally take the wraps off its first EV for India, the e Vitara. In terms of design, the e Vitara echoes many of the styling elements from the eVX concept that previewed it in 2023: the upright stance, large LED headlights and chunky cladding all around. The e Vitara is to wear 18-inch wheels as standard, and LED light bar runs across the rear of the SUV.
The cabin of the e Vitara also sports a relatively more upmarket design over the rest of the Maruti Suzuki offerings in India, with the top-spec variant also getting features like a floating 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 10.1-inch fully digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a fixed panoramic sunroof, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and ventilated front seats, among others. Safety will be covered with seven airbags, rear disc brakes, a blind-spot monitor, Level 2 ADAS suite, 360-degree camera, electronic parking brake with auto-hold and more bits.
The e Vitara will be available with two LFP battery packs: a 49kWh pack and a 61kWh unit. Torque output is identical at 192.5Nm, but the smaller battery produces 143hp while the large pack delivers 173hp. Maruti Suzuki has said that the 61kWh e Vitara will have a 500km range according to the MIDC cycle.
