Road Tested : When combined together, small changes really add up to create a significant impact. After launching the latest fourth-generation version of its best-selling Outlander SUV in 2022, Mitsubishi is preparing to launch a mid-cycle refresh for 2025.Mechanically the Outlander is largely unchanged,
but Mitsubishi isi throwing a number of cosmetic updates at it from a refreshed exterior and interior styling to a kicking Yamaha audio system that was tuned specifically for the Outlander. Along with a report about what we learned, AutoGuide recently got a chance to drive the 2025 Outlander in Los Angeles.
Quick Take
As for those hoping for deep mechanical changes for the 2025 Outlander or for upgrades to carry over into the Outlander PHEV, well, sorry no-go on both fronts. These changes are only free onto the gas-powered Outlander and, whereas plentiful, are mostly surface. That being said, Mitsubishi reps speaking to Autoguide said similar changes could be on the way for the Outlander PHEV in 2026.
What’s New For 2025
There’s a lot going on with the 2025 Outlander, but Mitsubishi’s new audio partnership with Yamaha takes the cake. Both the 12- and 8-speaker systems of Yamaha audio were designed specifically for the Outlander, marking the first vehicle available for sale in North America to come with Yamaha audio straight from the factory. Yamaha audio is available for every 2025 model as standard.
Additional updates include new front grille and bumper designs, updated rear taillights, new 18 and 20-inch wheel designs, a larger 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, and a revised center console. A new exterior color, Moonstone Gray Metallic, is also offered.
Mechanical revisions are a bit more limited, but the ‘25 Outlander does get re-tuned steering, revised suspension tuning and sound deadening, a byproduct of Yamaha’s involvement with the all-new audio systems, that we’ll get into a bit later. Exterior Style
The 2025 Outlander’s revised MITIBU dynamic shield face sports subtle changes up front, most notably a restyled grille that’s now meant to look smoother and more integral to the appearance of the vehicle as a whole. Also, the hood and front fenders are now made of steel to reduce noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) and ride quality; Now, the bonnet lifting with the top has been
replaced with a hood fixed to the car’s front end. Mitsubishi says that the switch to steel also allows for tighter tolerances during manufacturing for a more precise fit and finish. The lighting has also changed, with updated LED headlights and taillights. The former dons a smoked lens and a full LED element. All KMC Outlanders for 2025 have gone full LED inside and out (standard).
New wheel designs in 18 and 20 inches are available, with finishes varying from painted to machine-finished depending on trim level. And lastly, a bluish-gray shade, Moonstone Gray Metallic, arrives in the color palette for the 2025 Outlander.
