Parking Charges Coming to Conwy : A big free car park in a Conwy town is set to become pay and display from this spring. The Plas yn Dre (Glasdir) Car Park in Llanrwst will be refurbished – with access restricted in the first two weeks of March 2023.Rework on the layout will also happen. New charges will then be introduced by Conwy council when the works are completed and a regulation Order has been activated.
The cost will vary from £1 (an hour) to £6.50 (24 hours). There will be a limited number of free short stay spaces for library useThe Conwy county council notice stated: “A contractor, MWT Civil Engineering Ltd, has been appointed to undertake repairs to the car park surface, and repaint to a revised layout. We hope to commence works in early March and take 1-2 weeks.
“The works will be carried out in phases to reduce disruption, but access and parking is likely to be restricted at periods of time.”It goes on: “To help generate an income to help fund vital services we are proposing that the car park is pay and display. For long-term (i.e. to visit the library or local shops etc.) a section of eight parking bays will be free of charge with a waiting period of 45
minutes. The charges shall be in accordance with Tariff A of the approved scale of charges of the car park. These are audited each year. The relevant discussed charges for Tariff A from 2025/26 are below: 1 hour £1.00; 2 hours £1.70; 4 hours £3.30; All day (8am-6pm) £5.00; All night (6pm-8am) £2.00; 24 hours £6.50. “The proposed 12 month charge from Tariff A permits for 2025/26 is £145 per vehicle.”
In the next few weeks, they will also publicise an Off-Street Traffic Regulation Order which would charge people for parking where it is not allowed. “Subject to this process, and the completion of planned maintenance works at the car park, we are targeting the implementation of the charges in April.” We will confirm this nearer the time.”
