Volkswagen Goes Sporty : The Volkswagen Passat, Tayron and even the Tiguan, got the new Golf GTI engine for the market in Europe for added power and performance. These cars have been offered with the EA888 engine but not the “hot” version developing 261 bhp.The performance bump is across the range, so the 261 bhp figure stands but the torque figures vary, but all three cars also get the 400 Nm of torque which is the same number as the Golf GTI Clubsport which is the track sibling. All three of the cars also come with
all wheel drive as standard. The 0-100 kmph time of the Passat is now also faster and it achieved it in 5.8 seconds while the Tayron and Tiguan take 5.9 seconds. The normal Golf GTI does it in a touch less time, 5.6 seconds. The towing numbers are improved to a degree as well. Towing figures are 2.2 tons for the Passat and Tiguan, 2.5 tons for the Tayron.
The rest of the engine options stay and the Europeans also obtain the more fuel-efficient diesel mills. Lastly, all three of these vehicles, the Tiguan, the Golf GTI and the Passat have to be optioned with the R Line trim level in order to get this engine option. This is not very cheap for them. Passat prices start from €62,990, Tayron prices start from €59,755 and Tiguan from €57,995.
When Can We Expect This Update In India?
Volkswagen does not offer the Passant or the Tayron in India. Right now, the Tiguan is the flagship and we may see an update shortly. It’s not yet confirmed if we will also get the same engine, but there is a good chance Volkswagen brings in the Tayron to India instead of the Tiguan which is a bigger SUV.
Volkswagen will also bring over the Golf GTI. Volkswagen dealers are already booking the GTI unofficially and we can soon expect the car on the Indian roads. Long considered the forbidden fruit in India, the GTI will be the range-topping model here. Expect it to be priced upwards of Rs 50 lakhs
